SET COMMENT 

        [GREG1\]SET COMMENT "Separator"

    Specify  which  character is used to indicate the beginning of a comment
    line in formatted input files for command COLUMN. "Separator" is a  sin-
    gle  character;  typical  values  are "!", ";", "#", although any single
    character can be specified. The default is "!".
