HIPPARCOS and TYCHO Original Data

The Hipparcos and Tycho Catalogues (ESA 1997) are accessible as
Catalog <I/239> ( at ftp://cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr/pub/cats/I/239),
or can directly be queried by VizieR from

The I/239 catalog contains the main part only, namely the files 
    hip_dm_c.dat   (as h_dm_com.dat and /h_dm_cor.dat)
    hip_dm_g.dat
    hip_dm_o.dat
    hip_dm_v.dat
    hip_dm_x.dat
    hip_main.dat
    hip_va_1.dat
    hip_va_2.dat
    solar_ha.dat
    solar_hp.dat
    solar_t.dat
    tyc_main.dat
from "cats" subdirectory. These files represent only a part of the whole 
Hipparcos catalog, consisting of 11 volumes and 6 CD-ROMs.

The contents of these 6 CD-ROMs are available here -- but were merged
into a single directory tree. All files were gzipped (with the Unix
utility gzip), which results in a total archive of about 1Gbyte -- but 
over 3Gbytes when decompressed. gzipped files are binary, therefore
don't forget to copy the files in BINARY mode !
