To improve our understanding  of size distribution and composition
 of the grains surrounding  carbon rich stars, we propose to obtain SWS
 spectra and ISOPHOT data for a sample of C-stars (including those
 showing both silicon carbide and silicate features) to the high  S/N
 and resolution necessary for accurate comparison with our theoretical
 and laboratory data.
