We propose in this proposal to investigate the dust properties of distant
IRAS galaxies (z =0.3, 0.6, 0.93 and 2.6) by looking for the presence of the
UIBs in their spectrum. The presence of these features  and the  detailed
spectrum will give a good assessment on the nature of dust grains in
these distant galaxies.
We shall also measure the overall shape of the spectrum in the infrared, a
very important ingredient in the interpretation of faint galaxy counts and
in the prediction of the extragalactic background in the infrared.
