The main scientific goal of this proposal is to understand the scenario of star formation and early stellar evolution within a few selected molecular clouds. We intend to perform photometric observations the young stellar object (YSO) population revealed by IRAS in three star forming clouds. Using broad-band multi-filter photometry with ISOPHOT, we intend to derive the spectral energy distributions and luminosities of IRAS point sources in the clouds Lynds 1188, 1251 and 1340. These quantities are suitable for finding the evolutionary stages and mass spectrum of a YSO population in the clouds. IRAS sources in three clouds in Cepheus - Cassiopeia region were chosen for this study: L1188, L1251 and L1340. YSO population, as well as distance, mass and structure are well established for these clouds. The objects selected for observations do not belong to the frequently observed YSOs. Their study will broaden the list of well studied objects in star forming regions which makes the comparison of various star forming regions possible. We intend to perform broad-band multi-filter photometry in the 3 - 240 micrometer wavelength region. Because the sensitivity of ISO is much higher than IRAS we expect to obtain good quality fluxes for the selected objects in the whole wavelength region. In this way we have a homogeneous data set for the whole known YSO population of the clouds suitable for determining the evolutionary stage and the mass function of the young stellar groups. Each object is intended to be observed with the same filter set. ISOCAM observations are aimed at revealing wide binaries and small groups suspected on the basis of studying IRAS raw data.
