We propose to observe several H2 molecular lines with ISO/SWS in the
rho-Oph dark cloud. In this proposal, more time is being requested for
TONAKA.WDISM_1 and TONAKA.WDISM_2.
We have observed the nearby star forming region, rho Oph cloud, in
far-infrared wavelength with a balloon-borne telescope, and in mid- and
far-infrared wavelength with LWS and SWS. Up to now, many observations of
active star forming regions have been made in many wavelength. However, the
physical conditions in relatively quiet star-forming regions are still
unknown. Rho Oph cloud is one of the most general interstellar cloud with
moderate UV field, gas temperature, and density. At the first call
observation of the rho Oph cloud with SWS, we have detected spectrum of
a high excitation energy level of H2 molecule (0-0 S(3)), which
unexpectedly suggests ubiquitous UV radiation in the dark cloud. More
information is strongly needed to understand the molecular processes
in warm interstellar cloud surrounded moderate UV field. Therefore,
observations of several H2 excitation lines are very important for
this study.
