We want to make a thorough survey of the Taurus molecular cloud region
in the literature frequently denoted as TMC2. This proposal takes  19h.
The central position for our survey is

RA (1950) = 04 30 00
Dec(1950) = 24 17 00

The area to be surveyed is of order 30'x50' in RAxDec. This region contains
dark cloud B18 and several IRAS 12 micron sources of which the
brightest is of order 2 Jy.

>From the analysis of the first PHT observations we propose to observe the
cloud in several IR bands and not only in 2 (C_100 and C_200 in ISDUST8, and
ISDUST13) as is done presently in the ISDUST proposal by Lemke et al for an
other cloud in Taurus (TMC1). By only having the 100/200 micron
brightness ratio it is sufficient to determine actual dust temperatures,
and hence accurate (dust) column densities. In addition we would like
to make an unbiased PHT-S survey of all IRAS pointsources in the region
to be mapped with PHT-C.

The usefullness of CAM for studying star formination regions was recently
best demonstrated by the rho Orph image. Here we will use CAM to map the
same are of the TMC2 as the PHT C observations but at 6.75 and 11.4 micron
(filters: LW2, LW8). Detailed IRAS studies of this area have revealed that
the largely enhanced spatial resolution of ISOCAM is necessay to study
accurately the luminosity function.

This project is carefully selected against what we learned from the IRAS
mission about what is nesseary to derive a more complete understanding of
low mass star formation.

There is no clash with existing other GT measurements.
This cloud is not blocked by any of the other guaranteed time programmes.
We have contacted K. Mattila to ensure that there was no duplication with
existing (PHT and CAM guaranteed time) cloud mapping programs and to
consolidate the centre position.
